About FreeBSDgr
FreesBSDGr is an experimental server on a home ADSL 1 Mbit line. Its specs are listed below:
- FreeBSD 7.3-RELEASE operating system (custom kernel)
- X Window system + XFCE (only when used as a desktop)
- Apache, MySQL, FTP, Mail servers plus a host of other programs for supporting the FreeBSD Greek Documentation Project.
- Shell accounts to selected remote users.
- CVS and Mercurial Repositories.
- Dynamic DNS for the hosted sites and remote access, using DynDNS (CustomDNS).
- Intel Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz (Hyperthreading, Northwood). Intel 865 Chipset.
- 2Gb DDR RAM.
- Onboard Intel Graphics
- 500GB SATA disk - 320 GB External USB Backup.
- UFS Journaling (Yes!) using gjournal
- 100Mbps Ethernet
APC UPS with automatic shutdown (the machine is mostly unattended).
Primary purpose was experimentation on FreeBSD and its services, however the machine was expanded to offer services relating to the work of the FreeBSD Greek Documentation Project:
- Translations of FreeBSD documentation are kept in the Mercurial repository.
- Regular automated builds of the English FreeBSD Handbook, the Greek FreeBSD Handbook and the FAQ.
- Daily rebuild of the FreeBSD.org website (including possible local patches).
More services include:
- The unofficial guide book "Beginning FreeBSD" in the mercurial repository.
- LaTeX sources of a networking guide book for Greek secondary school students in the CVS Repository.
- Visit the CVS and Mercurial repositories to see the rest of the available documents.
- Finally, this server is hosting experimental web pages, mainly from secondary school students.
