Greek Documentation Project

The FreeBSD Greek Documentation Project Team is currently translating the FreeBSD Handbook and the FAQ. There are future plans for translating the web site as well.

Contact us if you would like to help with the translation effort.

How you can help

It is not difficult to help our translation effort.

You need:

  • A good (but not necessarily perfect) knowledge of the English language.
  • Some free time.
  • To be willing to help.

You will gain:

  • The satisfaction of assisting an international voluntary project, used by millions of people.
  • The respect of people that will use your work.
  • Better understanding of the system (since you will read and comprehend the documentation yourself).
  • Technical knowledge concerning the way the documentation is handled and transformed into various formats (HTML, PDF, and so on).
  • Experience that you can present in your CV (and prove easily it is real as well).

You don't need:

  • Special equipment or software. A simple Internet connection and a text editor will suffice. You may use a source code management tool (e.g. a mercurial repository) but it is not absolutely necessary.
  • Expert's knowledge or programming. The biggest part of the documentation is SGML based, and is easy to understand if you have a basic knowledge of HTML. You will rarely have to change the actual SGML during translation. Usually, it is enough to simply translate the English text.
